Online Fraud: Online fraud has become a significant problem throughout the country. Most of these online frauds involve the use of multiple SIM cards. Fraudsters often use new SIM cards each time they engage in fraudulent activities. To address this issue, the government is planning to limit the number of SIM cards per identification (ID). Currently, only nine SIM cards can be issued for one ID. However, the government aims to reduce this limit from nine to four. If implemented, individuals will only be able to obtain a maximum of four SIM cards on a single ID, which will help prevent online fraud.
People to Receive 4 SIM Cards per ID – Government Proposes Plan
According to media reports, the Minister of Telecommunications, Ashwini Vaishnaw, is considering limiting the number of SIM cards to four per ID. The government has already approved the guidelines for restricting SIM cards. These guidelines may soon be made available to the general public. Furthermore, the government is also considering moving the verification process for SIM cards online, which will help in combating online fraud.
Now, Only This Many SIMs Will Be Available
The government is introducing a new service that will inform individuals about the number of SIM cards that can be issued or have been issued against their ID. This service will be accessible through a companion portal. If someone wants to check whether they have inadvertently received a fraudulent SIM, they can also find this information on the portal. They can then proceed to block that number. This service has been launched to protect people from online scams.

Many unwanted calls are received frequently, offering unauthorized loans, home loans, credit cards, or other types of offers. This can be frustrating and annoying. To provide relief from such unnecessary calls, the government has taken strong measures and established various rules in this direction.
