Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana: Various schemes are being implemented by the Central and State Governments to empower girls. The Central Government has the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and several state governments also have their own schemes. These schemes cover expenses related to a girl’s birth and education. One such scheme is being run by the Maharashtra Government, known as the “Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana.” Under this scheme, the Maharashtra Government provides Rs. 50,000 upon the birth of a girl child.

Who can avail the benefits of the Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana?
To avail the benefits of the Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana, one must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra. Under this scheme, a joint bank account is opened in the mother and daughter’s names. They receive a Rs. 1 lakh accident insurance and a Rs. 5,000 overdraft facility. Additionally, if the parents wish to undergo sterilization after the birth of a daughter, they receive Rs. 50,000. Similarly, if they undergo sterilization after the birth of two daughters, each daughter receives Rs. 25,000 in her name. The funds received under this scheme can be utilized for the girl’s education.

To avail the benefits of the scheme, one needs an Aadhaar Card, a bank account passbook in the mother’s or daughter’s name, a mobile phone number, a passport-sized photograph, and a residential address proof. An income proof is also required. Only two daughters in a family can benefit from the scheme even if there is a third child.
